Quality, Health, Safety & Environment

Our ongoing efforts to make ‘attention to quality, health, safety and environmental impact’ permanent corporate values are an ‘adventure’.  A QHSE culture cannot be planned or programmed. Nevertheless, the four pillars of quality, health, safety and the environment are top priorities in our policy and permanent focus points.

Our objectives:

‘Right first time’

We pay extra attention to preparation, planning, quality assurance and control at every stage of a project to ensure that we deliver the right quality while meeting the agreed deadlines.

Less Disruption and Optimum safety

Minimum of disruption

Mobility is an essential part of our society. The importance of an optimum road network is undeniable. As experts in this area, we are constantly striving for improvements and optimisation. Old roads are renewed and mobile junctions optimised. We construct completely new carriageways and make cycle paths, pedestrian zones and roadside verges more convenient as well as safer.

There is no doubt about the importance of our work, but it does, of course, result in some disruption. Road construction can take some time and it is not possible to eliminate every single inconvenience caused.

We make every endeavour to keep any disruption to a minimum, both at our sites and for the entire duration of our maintenance contracts.

It goes without saying for BESIX that operation must be accurate and phased with a strict adherence to schedules. Information about disruption, timing and any measures that need to be taken is important for the environment, the municipality or town itself, the residents and retailers.

The site and project manager maintains permanent communication with the neighbourhood, the parties involved, the clients and sub-contractors. By informing everyone promptly and quickly identifying any sticking points, we work efficiently and purposefully, and the frustrations of those involved are kept to a minimum.

Safety is key

The safety of our people and all parties involved is our number one priority. BESIX Infra guarantees the integrity of our staff by pro-actively managing and reducing the risks. Any accident, incident or occupational illness is unacceptable.

The safety of local residents is also extremely important to BESIX Infra. Order, cleanliness and accessibility are a key concern at every site!

BESIX Infra: a deserving second place at the 'Minder Hinder' Awards for the second year in a row

On 9 November, Aquafin awarded the 11th 'Minder Hinder' Award to the contractor who carried out sewerage projects last year on behalf of the company, scoring best in terms of quality, safety and an eye for the environment.

BESIX Infra was again a frontrunner in these Awards, and has been in the top 3 five times in the past, winning once (in 2010). In the 2017 award ceremony, BESIX Infra was awarded 2nd place, behind contractor Verhegge. Aquafin has also developed stricter procedures and rules regarding the use of personal protective equipment, and BESIX Infra received an honourable mention because it pro-actively translated the new procedures into concrete work instructions for our own employees.

Minimising the impact of our activities on the environment

Green solutions

BESIX Infra is always trying to use green solutions in a variety of areas. We also try to limit the damage to flora and fauna in the surroundings of our building sites as far as possible.

Recycling

With its own concrete and recycling site, BESIX Infra once again prioritises ecologically responsible business practices and a reputation for being environmentally friendly.
