BESIX Infra is completely reconstructing Heikant, Sint-Jozeflaan and Kerkstraat in the municipality of Stekene. A separate sewer network is being installed, cycle paths improved and new footpaths laid in concrete paving.
The fish in the Stekene Canal can breathe again! Thanks to the installation of a separate sewer network, one of the areas in which BESIX Infra specialises, the dirty water is expelled, leaving room for just rainwater.
Kerkstraat was in extremely poor condition. Two-way traffic and parking spaces on the road itself made it unsafe to drive. BESIX Infra is converting it into a one-way street and creating separate parking spaces away from the road. Cycle lanes will also make the road a bit safer and more pleasant for cyclists!
Roadworks inevitably involve some disruption. However, for BESIX Infra it is an absolute priority to minimise the inconvenience as much as possible, including for the retailers and schools affected. The works are being phased to improve accessibility for those affected. In addition, BESIX Infra is maintaining close contact with all suppliers as the contractor.
During heavy rainfall, Stekene sometimes suffered flooding. BESIX Infra specialises in the installation of overflow drains, allowing excess rainwater in mixed sewerage systems to overflow into streams and watercourses and not be carried away to sewage treatment plants. Ingeniously simple, but always effective!
Good cooperation is half of the work. BESIX Infra maintains daily contact with both the municipality and the client. Teamwork resulting in an official inauguration of the street by the Alderman of Public Works Kris Duyse, followed by a festive walk with all residents.
