In November 2017, the Sea-invest group officially inaugurated the Antwerp Container Terminal (ACT) at the Delwaidedok. As a maintenance partner in this project, BESIX Infra is responsible for road and sewer repairs, site expansions, level crossing repairs and loading and unloading quays.
BESIX Infra has been a permanent maintenance partner at BNFW (Belgian New Fruit Wharf) for 5 years, and no less than 20 years for MSC (Global Container Shipping Company). This regular collaboration is the result of both the flexibility and the quality of approach that characterises BESIX.
The container installation is located on the Delwaidedok and comprises an impressive 63 ha area with 900 metres of quay length on the south side and 150 metres at the head end of the dock. The terminal is equipped with 3 gantry cranes, 3 mobile cranes and 350 reefer connections.
Part of the terminal includes an empty container & repair depot belonging to Progeco. This enables ACT to offer its customers a nice added value. One of the advantages is that Progeco not only has its own gate on the land side, but also an access via the water so that containers can also be exchanged this way.
Antwerp Container Terminal guarantees that barges will not experience waiting times at the terminal and makes it a point of honour to handle barges immediately.
The construction of the ACT is complementary to the container activities at the Deurganck dock, which ensure that Antwerp can continue to meet the needs of global container ships. The terminal enables SEA-invest to focus on niche carriers and on ships that can tolerate a lock passage.
With this terminal we are writing a new chapter in the port of Antwerp
