Renewal of Drainage Ditches Along Railway Line L50A (Brussels – Ghent)

Sustainable railway infrastructure for improved water management and operational reliability
Along railway line L50A between Brussels and Ghent, BESIX Infra delivered a major railway infrastructure project for TUC RAIL and Infrabel. Over a 7-kilometre section, drainage ditches were renewed and additional infrastructure works were carried out to improve water management, stability and the long-term resilience of the railway environment.

Upgrading railway infrastructure and drainage systems

Along the railway corridor through Sint-Lievens-Houtem, Erpe-Mere and Aalst, BESIX Infra renewed the drainage ditches on both sides of the tracks. These works improve rainwater management and help protect the railway infrastructure from water-related damage.

The project also included the installation of cable ducts for power, signalling and communication networks, slope stabilisation works and improvements to maintenance access roads.

Supporting a reliable railway connection

Through this integrated approach, the project contributes to the safe and reliable operation of one of Belgium's key railway connections between Brussels and Ghent. Sustainable drainage solutions and upgraded railway infrastructure help prepare the line for future operational and environmental challenges.
