The R4 in Ghent

At the end of April 2014, the THV R4 Gent consortium delivered the R4 Zuid project in Ghent six months ahead of schedule. BESIX Infra worked with Antwerpse Bouwwerken nv, BESIX nv and Stadsbader nv within the consortium.

The R4 Zuid project involved extending the R4 outer ring road between Zwijnaarde and Merelbeke. This was the missing link in the ring road around Ghent. To drive from Zwijnaarde to Merelbeke, motorists and cyclists had to make a detour of several kilometres. The completion of the R4 has made this a thing of the past.

THV had been working on this project since 2012 on behalf of the Agency for Roads and Traffic (AWV). This was a public-private partnership in the form of a Design, Build, Maintain contract. THV will maintain the road for another 30 years after completion.
