10 kilometres of new cycle highway along the R4 in Ghent officially opened
Safe and comfortable cycling infrastructure along the R4
With the opening of 10 kilometres of new cycle highway between Wachtebeke and Oostakker, the region around Ghent gains an important new cycle link. The route connects residential areas, business parks and the port area, making sustainable travel more attractive.
New cycle bridges and cycle tunnels ensure that cyclists can cross the R4 safely, completely separated from motorised traffic. Thanks to these improvements, a continuous cycle route is being created along the eastern side of the ring road, with a particular focus on road safety and user comfort.
Part of the R4 redevelopment
The new cycle highway forms part of R4WO, the large-scale infrastructure project designed to make the R4 around Ghent safer, more efficient and more liveable. In addition to improving traffic flow for road users, significant investment is also being made in sustainable mobility. In total, the project provides for 20 kilometres of new cycling infrastructure along the R4.

The consortium brings together extensive expertise in the design, construction, financing and maintenance of large-scale infrastructure projects. As part of the R4WO project, BRAVO4 is working on a sustainable and safe redevelopment of the R4 around Ghent, with a particular focus on smooth traffic flow, conflict-free junctions and comfortable cycle routes.
